Dry needling has been shown to improve function by reducing pain and muscle tightness. Physiotherapists use dry needling for those suffering from long-term pain or an acute injury. More commonly, we use it to treat back pain and neck pain associated with stress and posture but also in helping dysfunction from muscle, nerve, and joint issues.

Dry Needling Balcatta for Pain Relief

Acupuncture differs from needling in that it attempts to change the flow of Chi throughout the body by focusing on meridian points. This is a form of Chinese medicine that is believed to be linked to our organs and bring balance to the human body. Needling, however, targets trigger points within the muscles. These trigger points, or more commonly known as “muscle knots,” are overly sensitive areas within the muscle where if targeted, can release tension and provide relief. We insert a thin needle into these points and often a twitch response can be felt. It has been shown to stimulate blood flow and alter muscle tissue structure. This treatment is based around Western medicine, using evidence- based principles for its application.
